About Us
Empowering Youth in
Transatlantic Security
NATO Youth Canada is the youth wing of the NATO Association of Canada, driven by a network of young professionals, students, and academics.
Who We Are
NATO Youth Canada is the official youth wing of the NATO Association of Canada, operating as part of the Youth Atlantic Treaty Association (YATA). We are a non-partisan organization dedicated to engaging young Canadians in transatlantic security dialogue, defence policy, and international relations.
Our members include university students, graduate researchers, young professionals, and early-career academics from coast to coast. We believe that the next generation of Canadian leaders must be informed, engaged, and ready to contribute to the security and prosperity of the transatlantic community.
Through policy briefs, events, conferences, and international exchanges, we provide platforms for young Canadians to develop expertise, build networks, and make their voices heard on the issues that define our era — from defence modernization and cyber security to climate-related security risks and democratic resilience.

Understanding Our Foundation
What is NATO?
The Alliance
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is an intergovernmental military alliance of 32 member states — 30 European and 2 North American. Founded in 1949, it provides a system of collective security.
Article 5
At its core is the principle of collective defence: an attack against one ally is considered an attack against all. This commitment has been the bedrock of transatlantic stability for over 75 years.
Canada's Role
Canada is a founding member of NATO and plays a key role through military contributions, Arctic security, NORAD partnership, and diplomatic leadership in alliance modernization.
